Kelly brought this up and now I feel like I can talk about it too!
So this was my response.
I just want to say that I am proud of you for bringing up the subject! this has been on my mind for awhile and was addressed at our church a few weeks ago. It is right for us to challenge each other (christians) with what we know is right and true from the word.
Ephesians 4:30 says
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Is what we are watching grieving the Holy Spirit in us? I know it almost sounds rediculous for me to remark that watching Oprah, The View, or sometimes even RachelRay can be grieving God's Spirit (those are shows I deal with during the day). But our culture is so far away from God I don't know how much longer we can let ourselves be exposed to whatever they decide to put on TV.
How hard will you fight against the flesh?
Ephesians 12:1-4
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin;
Jesus fought the flesh so hard that he hemorraged and shed blood. I think we can turn off the TV.
